Lovely to e-meet you!

My name is Amy Enchelmeyer and I make internet happen. I've interwebbed everything from cable television premieres to United Nations development goals; from the tiniest memes to the ground-breaking discoveries of exoplanets.

On any given day you can find me editing viral roly-poly panda videos or translating cutting-edge science into digestible content for the digital sphere.

I've even won a few awards for all that hard work. But really, the best part is exploring, tracking and adapting to the infinite, ever-changing internet. For all its issues, the interwebs are the most entertaining place in the world. You just need to know where to look. Hint: click here.

About me

By now you know I love the internet and I make all kinds of content for it, mostly about science and animals.

(If you love the internet, science and animals, too, we should be friends! You can contact me with the form below or find me on LinkedIn.)

But how did I end up here ("here" being a window cubicle overlooking the cheetahs that occasionally taunt the zebras on the other side of their enclosure)?

I was raised in New Jersey, spent my formative high school years in Oregon, call New Orleans my adopted home, and currently live in Washington, D.C. with my husband, son and two cats.

I attended Tulane University where I outran numerous hurricanes and studied all genres of photography and literature. During the summer months, I spent time living abroad: first with an aboriginal tribe in Western Australia (where I learned I’m supremely prone to parasites), and then studying fashion photography in London (where I learned I have no sense of fashion). I graduated with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in English in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

After Hurricane Katrina hit, I knew I wasn’t ready to leave New Orleans. I took a job working as the director of constituent services for the New Orleans City Council President to help with the rebuilding efforts.

Less than a year later, I made the very difficult decision to move home to Oregon to help my dad pursue his life-long (though short-lived) dream of owning a restaurant.

Along the way, I  that came to realize that real-life stories are better than fiction — hence another trip to graduate school for a second master’s degree in journalism at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.

I spent a year honing my storytelling skills, learning the ins and outs of the new media world, studying science journalism, and covering my favorite beat: animals and wildlife.

In 2010 I was hired as an associate producer for Discovery News, the no-longer news website brought to you by the one-and-only Discovery Channel. After more than two years with Discovery Communications, I moved within the company to work for the Science Channel, managing their social media online presence.

After a few years in cable television, I came to realize the internet was the most powerful way to engage with and change the world. And I still believe it!

So after a brief time with the United Nations Foundation, I now work towards saving species at the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute.
